life without ______ 01Aug07 | 1 comment

Lately, I’ve been thinking about “What life would be like with out _____”.  So here’s my top 3.

  1. Put me into whatever category you want, but can you imagine life without a computer?  Geeze, no email.  I feel disconnected when I am away from a computer for a 1/2 day (even though I have a cell phone on me, which I SMS on).
  2.  The next big winner is AC.  Air Conditioning is amazing; can you imagine being at work when it is 95 degrees?
  3. Cars/Planes.  I can’t even begin to think what my life would be like if I didn’t have a car or have access to planes.  I’d probably be within 10 miles of where I was born.

Earlier this year, one of the greatest things to TV occured. A show with the word Pirate in it. The show was Pirate Master. As in: WHO WILL BE THE NEXT PIRATE MASTER?

While I knew this show was very cheesy, It was pretty addictive. Very entertaining, and I have an affinity for pirates.

After 7 great episodes, CBS determined we’ve seen enough pirates. The show has been cancelled. Please take a moment of silence to respect pirate masters.

If you are an AIM user and want something that is a little lighter, you should check out AIM Lite.

It has a tiny footprint, no ads, no bells, no whistles.  It messages, its great!

I am kind of reminded about some people who walk into the cell phone store and say “I would like a cell phone that makes phone calls”.  This is an AIM client that IMs People.

It looks like facebook has removed a couple of clicks in their site.  When you confirm friends you don’t have to leave the page.  Good work guys.  Step 2: get the rest of the internet to do the same.

Benny and the Jets 17Jul07 | 0 comments

benny_jets_uksm.jpgToday, I decided to look up the lyrics to Benny and the Jets by Sir Elton John.

I looked them up because I realized that I didn’t know any of the lyrics, yet sang along anyway.

It turns out the only two words I actually did know were “benny” and “jets”. Look them up yourself and be astonished.

Isn’t it amazing that we can sing along to a song and not know any of the words?

or is it just me?

thank you comscore 10Jul07 | 0 comments

Comscore did us all a favor by measuring the web in a different way.  They are working on switching over to time spent on sites instead of page views.  Why is this cool? because some sites are designed to raise page views.  Such as a site like evite.com which makes you click about 48 times to do anything.  With changing this “standard” we can expect to see sites that make us click less.  Prepare for right pointer finger relaxation.  No more spider pushups over here.

Sorry, no sources…laziness.

the biggest lipo loser 09Jul07 | 1 comment

Not sure why I started thinking about this, but I did.  Who deserves liposuction more?

  1. someone who works out everyday and wants to cut out an extra 5 lbs.  or
  2. someone who does not work out at all and wants to cut out like 50 lbs (I’m not sure if that’s even possible).

It’s kind of interesting, but I would say the person who works out and wants to cut out 5 lbs probably deserves it more (not that I would promote this or recommend it).  I feel you have to commit yourself to something.  If you don’t invest your time, you shouldn’t be rewarded.

ads make the web better 04Jul07 | 0 comments

That sentence is kind of an odd one.  But, I think its true.  I kind of reminds me of the way that wikipedia wants everyone to donate to them.  Companies make it easy for you to donate to them, by either giving them a bunch of page view or clicking through their ads.  If you really like a company and want to give them more money just click on their ads.

As a single consumer our only resource is our time.  Thus, someone has figured out a way to value our time.  If we want to give this resource away we can make a site that we like some more money.  I think its definitely a different paradigm then I was previously used to.  Not sure how this relates to site without ads, such as a Netvibes, or other .com startups whose revenue plan is acquisition.  I really want to see someone’s DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) for a .com startup with an acquisition as the only form of revenue.  That just makes me want to invest instantly!

Next time you are bothered by ads, just realize that if you enjoy the product you are using, put up with it.  I’m sure it won’t be long till ads are a lot different then just images or flash banners.
